Pawlowski Is Allentown's New Billy Joel

Francis Dougherty, Pawlowski's former Managing Director, minced no words yesterday describing how Pawlowski steered city contracts to those bidders who could help him most with his political ambitions. While this comes as no surprise to we who watched him operate for the last decade, what does this say about Allentown's future? If he is convicted and taken away, we're still left with about a third of the voting population who were not fazed by his questionable ethics. His supporters now serve on numerous boards and commissions.

Those supporters were not deluded about his innocence,  they were simply hoping for a small piece of the plunder.  Although it would be nice to think that justice will prevail,  and that Allentown will be purged of these parasites,  the truth is that we will never again be the city pictured on postcards.

Billy Joel was a lightweight compared to Pawlowski tainting Allentown's reputation.

  1. Well said MM. This past election was a wake-up call for the rest of the decent citizens left in Allentown. However, there were more dynamics than the non-informed and illiterate reelection of a con-man as its mayor. The O'Connell/Hendricks write in campaign was a primary source for his reelection. Second, the support of the Allentown Democratic machine led by Walt "I don't have a clue" Felton was secondary. Add this to the general ignorance now residing in Allentown, you have a reelection of a parasite running city hall.

Yesterday's testimony from Francis X. Daugherty, the No. 2 man and cover for Pawlowski, illustrates the deceit of the man they call Mr. Ed. When he is sentenced and long gone, [thank God], his stench will permeate politics in Allentown for a long, long time. Still, the ignorant electorate will still sing his praises.

  2. Allentown traded its industrial base to become a warehouse mecca -- warehousing both transient goods and transients of the dependent class. As such, it is largely irrelevant compared to cities that have made better choices. So, of course, its city government is going to attract not the best and brightest, but shady mediocrities. That should come as no surprise to anyone.

At this point the best we can do is to engage in some rear guard efforts like resisting the corrupt Tom Muller as Managing Director, making sure we don't stand for someone too much like Chicago Eddy winding-up as Mayor, and keeping Chicago Eddy flunky and irrational leftist Susan Wild from further embarrassing us nationally as the 15th's congresswoman.

Alas, other than Detective Garcia, there aren't many bright lights on Allentown's political horizon...

  3. jeffery@7:48, i opposed the concept of a managing director when introduced by pawlowski in 2006. it was previously decided by council that such a position was redundant. their bad for funding it. however, at this point in time i favor the position, to provide leadership in pawlowski's physical and moral absence. tom muller in my opinion is a good choice for the position.
